WASTE MANAGEMENT
Waste Disposal, Litter Picking and Dog Muck
BROOK UNDER THREAT
There are two important environmental matters for your attention. Trade effluent at Brooksby (fish waste) and Sand and Gravel effluent.
LANDFILL
There is yet another threat to our village, the possibility of waste being used as landfill at Brooksby.
Get on With it! Help Yourself and Us!
Please take ownership and responsibility for day to day matters and take action yourself. Of course the Parish Council will take its part but please do not bombard the poor Councillors with trivia! Come to them only if you can't resolve the matter and use the "Village Reporting Form". You have a part to play! Help yourself and your fellow parishioners.
Numbers to help you include:
Maintenance of Roads, Footpaths and Pavements: Ring 0800 626203
Refuse, bins etc: Ring: 01509 64715
However, you may find the "Report Reporting Form" an easier electronic way to do it.
Floods in Rearsby

It gets much higher some years.
To say that the Brook is liable to flooding is an understatement. Over the last few years there have been at least four occasions when water entered some homes. The Primary School has been flooded twice causing considerable expense, not only in money terms but also in lost time and effort.
The Brook's course has been cleaned-out each year in September using mechanical diggers as appropriate. Most of the flood water eventually disperses. There remains the threat of serious flooding in times of very heavy rainfall.
A measuring device has been suspended over the stream to monitor water levels over the next couple of years.
However, there is now a proposed long-term plan to divert and hold back the water upstream, to even-out the flow in times of heavy rain. It is a mini version of Melton's new scheme.
The Council will continue to press for a solution both to this current problem and to the possible flooding, which could be caused by the expected gravel extraction at Brooksby. The sensor was installed early in August 03.
HIGHWAY PATROL
Leicestershire County Council has "HIGHWAY PATROL". It is tasked to inspect and repair defects in the roads. You must play your part please, if you want to have repairs carried out speedily. Telephone the number printed below and report any thing causing concern on roads, footpaths and footpaths.
Roads and pavements in snow and icy conditions
Grit bins are now provided around the village for the use of people treating local spots of ice and snow. They are located: Mill Lane/Melton Road junction, bottom of Weston Close junction Melton Road and at the junction of Station Road/Church Leys Avenue. In the times of heavy snow and/or ice, temporarily paid snow wardens will be responsible for some paths and streets. Parts of Melton Road, Brook Street, Brookside past the School and parts of Station Road on the direct route to Thrussington, are salted by Highways as necessary. We have appointed a snow warden (Nick Shivers) responsible for gritting in bad weather.
Risk Assessment
The current situation is to be found below.
Fireworks
The use of fireworks is limited to certain times and days. See under.
